My whole life is about living joyously and authentically, so that might at first seem at odds with the name of my mental health practice & meditation center.
So why did I choose to call it, ‘Garden of Sacred Tears’?
To me, tears accompany us at some of our most painful moments in life. We shed tears when we lose someone who is dearly precious to us. Or when our cherished dreams slip away. Or when a childhood is robbed. Tears accompany us when we confront death and dying, or when we have to face the end of a relationship that we thought would go on forever. We shed tears with others, and for others.
And yet, tears also accompany us at some of our most joyous moments in life. We shed tears when we experience new beginnings. They are there when we laugh with joy with our friends and our loved ones. Tears are also present when we witness the birth of new life, or when we sing, dance or make love in the throws of ecstasy. We shed tears when we rediscover our true self, basking and gleaming once again in the joy of self awakening.
Not all tears are visible, some are seen, some remain hidden deep in our hearts. Tears are never in the past, nor in the future. They are always in the present, and there is nothing more sacred to me than the present moment itself. The present moment is the garden of eternity, nourished by the sacred tears of our suffering and our bliss. It is in this garden of sacred tears that we witness and become that which is beyond it all. A nothingness.
Or rather, a ‘no-thing-ness’. Not a void, nor an emptiness, but rather the origin and completion of all that is, including itself. It is a place where there is no more coming, and no more going.
Alas, no words can describe this ‘no-thing-ness’. It has to be lived in the present, in the garden, in the tears, in the witnessing. We all are a part of this, though we feel that we are apart.
My whole life is about living authentically and joyously in this place, and that is why I called it ‘Garden of Sacred Tears’.
